For the frosting-impaired among us.

Anyone who knows me (or my pant size) knows that I love to bake. Sugar, butter, flour...nirvana. On the other hand, frosting is my nemesis. I can't ever get it to look right, or be the right color, or harden up enough to stack cookies (unless I make royal icing, and I don't like the way it tastes).

Enter my latest discovery: "Frosting" cookies with Candy Melts. This is so much easier! Melt those little disks in the microwave (here's a tip: microwave for 30 seconds, stir until the bowl is no longer warm, microwave another 30 seconds, stir, repeat), add a little shortening to thin the mixture, and dip the cookies! So much easier that the frosting battles I usually fight.

  1. And the reason they taste good is because my dad worked on them. Wilton is the distributor, but they're made by Guittard Chocolate. (although, he doesn't work there any more, he's at Mars now). The cookies look great, and I bet they taste good too. (and I'd add, to microwave on 30-50% power, keeps from scorching the confectioners compound :)

  2. @Lynn - of course, I should have known! If your dad worked on it, it is sure to be good. And if he is the mastermind behind that little bit of heaven known as a MilkyWay Midnight bar, I might just have to ask him to adopt me.

  8. @ Charlotte - if you ever find one, please share. I think I try a different recipe every time I make sugar cookies, and still haven't found that perfect, soft cookie.

@Flora - I've been blaming every holiday since Halloween.
